A mid-level backend developer at a major Swiss bank or tech firm can see gross offers of CHF 130'000–160'000. The question that actually matters is what lands in the account after AHV, ALV, BVG, and cantonal tax — and whether that figure justifies Zürich's cost of living.

Mechanical engineers in precision manufacturing or MedTech land in similar ranges, with senior project engineers reaching CHF 130'000–150'000 at large firms.

The arc from Zürich through Baden to Aarau houses a dense cluster of industrial and engineering employers — ABB, Alstom, Georg Fischer — that offer stable long-term employment, strong pension contributions, and structured career ladders. Less flashy than fintech, but the benefit packages are frequently more generous.

What Gets Deducted and What You Actually Take Home
